Though I’m probably a few months late to this discussion, I want to get out my thoughts on Flock. For you non techies, Flock is a new browser centered around the social web. There is integrated blogging and social bookmarking. Yes, I tried the developer preview. Basically Flock is a prime example of over hype in today’s Web 2.0 space. Its marketing machine went into such hyper drive that the (alpha/beta) product could in no way live up to the buzz. The backlash has got so absurd that there is even a blog called Flock Sucks.
I my humble opinion, Flock in its current incarnation (which is still a developer preview) is merely a patched up version of Firefox using various plugins. They have not delivered on the hype! Considering that the new Firefox Performancing plugin has been extremely well received, Flock certainly has an uphill battle on their hands. Flock is in no way even close to being counted out. I think there is validity to their vision. It is just a matter of execution.
