For those of you that have not used Agile development, I highly recommend you take a look at the online book Getting Real. Though it is written from the perspective of Ruby on Rails development, it offers solid principles on iterative process that can be used on a multitude of projects. In addition it gives a great synopsis on other staples of the Agile methodology such as don’t repeat yourself, maintaining a small and flexible structure, rapid change process, lightweight specs, and more. Best of all it is a quick read.

From my experience iterative development is the core idea behind Agile. And the corresponding tasks that support it have had a tremendous impact on how I conduct business. I don’t use every single element of Agile, but incorporating the big picture is something I would tell anyone to seriously consider.
